Exhibition dates: May 19-23, 2021
An “off-site” exhibition at the panoramic site of Notre Dame de Miséricorde, also known as the Sailors’ Chapel, located on the Hill of the Virgin in Martigues. The installation “You See the Sea? I Think of the Sky” in Martigues is part of this “off-site” selection commissioned by PAC 2021 (Spring of Contemporary Art).
Between the Mediterranean Sea, canals, and the Étang de Berre (Berre Lagoon), in Martigues, and even more so on this elevated site, water and land are intimately intertwined. Wherever you look, the two elements share the horizon. Installed against the Notre Dame des Marins Chapel, the work “Stretched,” a trilogy of horizon fragments, responds to the Martigues landscapes and echoes a quote from Mark Rothko, also on display.

The city of Martigues has taken an interest in the project, with an article in La Provence newspaper
and a filmed interview on the Maritima television channel.
